CELEBRATING AFRICAN AND AFRO-DIASPORIC PERFORMANCE
Vanicia broke boundaries being the first bgirl (female breakdancer) in the state of Tennessee. Studying, training and teaching in the styles known as breaking, house dancing and waacking/punking. She has an extensive list of accomplishments over the years of dancing. Vanicia has been a finalist, winner and judge in many competitions. She was the first female to make history to win the Star Systems Competition based out of Las Vegas. Vanicia’s numerous performances include opening up for KRS-One and Jason “Mayem” Miller (MTV’s Host of Bully Beatdown), performing in the Steller Award Show at the Grand Ol Opry for Kirk Franklin, Adidas, Journeys, Audio Technica, lulu lemon; her performances range from corporate events to community events. Vanicia is also highly dedicated to civic and social outreach work through church and other settings. She has worked in orphanages in Mexico and completed service through dance in New Orleans. Vanicia Flores-Messick is a dance instructor/mentor at Rocketown & The Pro Trac as well as being a guest artist Middle Tennessee State University located in Nashville, Tennessee. As a teacher, Vanicia Flores-Messick has helped many students of all ages improve their dancing as well as their lives. In Rocketown Dance classes Vanicia will challenge you to develop better techinique, experimentation and encourage you to take risks in your dancing all the while maintaining a comfortable and entertaining classroom environment.
